Several Bakersfield police officers were recently caught on video, mercilessly beating a man who they claim was non-compliant. However, the video speaks for itself, and it does not appear that the man was a threat to the officers at all. In fact, the man can be heard screaming before the officers beat and taser him, and saying that his leg is broken.
And what heinous crime did this man commit to deserve this brutal beating? He was caught jaywalking, and tried to run away from the police. As you might expect, a spokesman for the Bakersfield Police Department defended the actions of these officers on 23ABC news, saying that “I can tell you by looking at the video there was obvious non-compliance by the person that they were in contact with.”
He later admitted that the man was mentally ill, before adding “It appeared that officers had to use some amount of force to overcome that resisting.”
