A former doctor for the U.S. olympic gymnastics team was sentenced to 60 years imprisonment for child porn during a federal court hearing Thursday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Larry Nassar, 54, the former Team USA gymnastics doctor, was sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty in July for three counts of child pornography charges, reported France24.

Approximately 37,000 graphic images and videos of child pornography were found on his computer and hard drive.

“He has demonstrated that he should never again have access to children,” said Janet Neff, a U.S. district judge, reported the Lansing State Journal. Nassar received the highest possible sentence of 20 years on each count.

Nassar told the court that he was ashamed, telling the judge, “I’m going to take every day of your sentence to try to better myself.”

The doctor is also accused of sexually assaulting women, including underage girls from the gymnastics team. Aly Raisman, an Olympic gold medalist, said that Nassar began abusing her when she was 13.

McKayla Maroney, another Olympic gold medalist, referred to Nassar as a “monster,” and accused him of molesting her at age 13.
